There are many types of motorcycles, and each kind has different vulnerabilities to accidents. Some bikes attract completely different kinds of bikers than do others, creating entirely different cultures. The lawyers of the Dolan Law Firm are bikers themselves, and know all about the different types of bikes and the cultures that surround them. Contact our lawyers to consult with them, for free, about any accident on any type of bike.
Just a few of the different types of bikes are:
- Sport bikes are small, agile vehicles, and are good at accelerating out of danger. But sport bikes are often harder to see and thus often get into collisions with cars and trucks.
- Goldwings (and other touring bikes) are large vehicles, with plenty of trunk space. Goldwings are not as agile in emergency situations, but, due to their size, are often very visible to drivers of cars and trucks.
- Scooters, including electric mopeds, motor scooters, Vespa scooters, and Honda scooters, are small, inexpensive vehicles popular in urban areas. They tend to have lower power and less braking capacity than other bikes. Thus they can not easily accelerate out of danger.
- Harleys tend to be less maneuverable than other bikes. Due to their longer wheel base, they often do not handle turns as well as do sport bikes. But because of their distinctive sound, drivers of cars and trucks are usually alerted to the presence of Harley-Davidson.
- Motocross or off-road bikes: Of course, since they are usually not on the roads, motocross and off-road bikes do not tend to get into collisions with cars and trucks; accidents are more often due to defects in the bike.
- Semi-choppers and café racers: According to “The Hurt Report,” motorcycle modifications such as those associated with the semi-chopper or café racer are much more likely to be in accidents than any other type of bike. Modifying bikes often removes safety measures that are normally built in to bikes.
